Did you know that when Yeshua was speaking to “the multitudes” in the Sermon on the Mount that He was speaking to Ephraim in exile? “Multitudes” is defined for us in Genesis 48:19, as Jacob is praying a blessing over Ephraim: “And his father refused and said, “I know it my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother (Ephraim) shall be greater than he and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.”
This sets up the framework and the context for his entire message. Understanding WHO He is talking to helps us understand WHAT He is saying and WHY He is saying it.
Yeshua is teaching “the multitudes” (or Ephraim) to return to the Torah. There are “code wodes” in this passage that Eddie unpacks: For example:
“Blessed are they who mourn” = those who are mourning = those who have departed from Torah and who are now living in exile
“For they shall be comforted” = those who are returning to Torah = those who will be coming out of exile.
“Blessed are the meek” = those who follow the Torah
“for they shall inherit the earth = those who follow the Torah will inherit the earth
“Let your light so shine before men” = the Torah gives us LIGHT
The Torah is defined as LIGHT: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
Yeshua is defined as LIGHT: “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12
Therefore, following Torah = following Yeshua = walking in the LIGHT!
